Lyrics
Words: S. Gozinsky
Sung in Hebrew and Yiddish
Moses rejoiced at the gift of his destiny,
For you called him a faithful servant.
You adored him with glorious splendor
As he stood before you on Mount Sinai.
And in his hands he brought down two stone tablets,
Which were inscribed with the commandment to observe the Sabbath.
The Sabbath was given exclusively to the Jews.
This is what it says in the Torah:
The Jew must rejoice on the Sabbath;
Enjoy the best food and drink,
Whatever one can afford,
And wear the handsomest clothes.
That is what God commanded.
yismaḥ moishe b’mat’nas ḥelko,
ki eved neman koroso lo.
khlil tiferes b’rosho nosato lo,
b’omdo l’fonekho al har sinai.
u’khosuv luhḥos avonim horid b’yado,
v’khosuv bohem sh’miras shabos.

yismaḥ moshe b’mat’nas ḥelko,
ki eved neman koroso lo.
khlil tiferes b’rosho nosato lo.
