Award-winning composer Jack Gottlieb ranks at the forefront of American music, both for his theater and concert works as well as his works of Jewish inspiration. The world-premiere recording of Love Songs for Sabbath, a deeply personal and artistic setting of Sabbath liturgy, combining the spoken word with music, is performed by celebrated actress Tovah Feldshuh (four Tony nominations Best Actress, four Drama Desk, and numerous other awards), who is also the featured speaker for the Three Candle Blessings welcoming the Sabbath. Jack Gottlieb's mastery of classical and popular idioms is delightfully apparent in Psalmistry and Shout for Joy—lively, jazz-influenced choral works that celebrate life.
Reviews and Recognitions:
"...the recordings are well made, and the performances are superb...." —Ian Quinn, American Record Guide
"...the sheer honesty of the musical and religious intention(s) sustains the eclecticism and recommends it to the listener.... Tovah Feldshuh...is consistently superb, flexible in voice, intelligent in her phrasing and unsentimentally emotional.... Anybody who has been enjoying some of the music from the Milken Archive issued on Naxos will certainly enjoy this addition to the series." —Glyn Pursglove, MusicWeb.uk.net
"...varied in mood, from joyous to serene." —Olin Chism, Dallas Morning News
