Herman Berlinski—whose colorful life included musical development in Leipzig and Paris, a stint in the French Foreign Legion, and a distinguished career as a composer, conductor, and organist in the United States—composed Judaically inspired music using a palette of rich, late-romantic harmonies. Included on this CD are some of Berlinski's best-known works for the synagogue and the concert hall.
Reviews and Recognitions:
"There are passages in Berlinski's work of such aching beauty that if you are not moved to tears you are made of sterner stuff than I am." —Jerry Dubins, Fanfare
"[From the World of My Father is]...a work of colourful, touching personality....Symphonic Visions for Orchestra shows Berlinski's mastery of mood and instrumental shading." —Donald Rosenberg, Gramophone
