Timothy Koch, a champion of contemporary choral music, studied at Wesleyan University, the University of Illinois, and the Eastman School of Music. From 1994 to 1999, he was director of choral activities and opera at the University of Southern Mississippi, and he made his European debut in 1996 at the Prague Spring Festival. Koch has been music director of the Syracuse University Orchestra, the Eastman-Rochester Chorus, and the Illinois Symphony Chorus. He also served as music director of the South Carolina Symphonic Chorale in Columbia, and the Carolina Chamber Chorale in Charleston. As the current music director of the Carolina Master Chorale in Myrtle Beach, he has toured with the ensemble internationally, performed masterworks for chorus and orchestra and opera productions, commissioned numerous new works, and expanded educational programming.
