Short documentary: Great Songs of the Yiddish Stage
Yiddish theater songs performed at the convention:
Oygn: With lyrics by Molly Picon, the romantic song, Oygn, comes from the musical comedy Eyns un a rekhts. The story concerns a wealthy banker who has fallen on hard times, his daughter, and her rags-to-riches love interest who comes to the rescue.
Ikh hob dikh tsufil lib: The musical comedy from which this song comes concerns the marriage of a young Jewish woman and a Gypsy organ-grinder/pickpocket who later turns out to be a Jew of impressive pedigree.
Zog, zog, zog es mir: Zog, zog, zog es mir is from the musical Goldele dem bekers, which takes place in Honolulu in 1940. The premier at the Second Avenue Theater starred Menashe Skulnik, Herman Yablokoff, and Bella Meisel.

When the Milken Archive set out to record songs from the heyday of the American Yiddish theater, we discovered that virtually all of the original orchestrations had been lost. In order to complete the project, researchers meticulously combed through available documentation in archives and personal collections. The Milken Archive then commissioned top orchestrators to recreate the songs as they would have been performed by a 24-piece orchestra—the ideal scenario of the time.
Now, for the first time, the Milken Archive is making these orchestrations and piano-vocal scores available to artists and ensembles interested in performing the repertoire publicly. Nearly 50 songs by Abraham Ellstein, Sholom Secunda, Joseph Rumshinsky, Alexander Olshanetsky, and more are available. Additionally, complete translations and transliterations of all song lyrics are available to aid non-Yiddish speakers with pronouncing and interpreting the text.

Composed in 1933, Ernest Bloch's Sacred Service (Avodat Hakodesh) remains a pinnacle within the repertoire. Included in the Milken Archive is the seminal recording of the masterpiece with Leonard Bernstein and Robert Merrill, and an original documentary video. Featuring dozens of the composer's own photographs, t he video provides a compelling exploration of Bloch's most important and enduring work of sacred Jewish music.

Dos gold fun dayne oygn: Dos gold fun dayne oygn, impressionistic in overall style, nevertheless exhibits certain melodic characteristics that tie it to eastern European Jewish folksong. It is one of the many love songs composer Lazar Weiner dedicated to his beloved wife, Sarah Naomi.
