Joseph Rumshinsky
1881–1956
Born in Lithuania, Joseph Rumshinsky studied piano and was a cantorial-choir assistant as young boy. Arriving in America in 1904, he became one of Second Avenue's "big four" composers and sought to transform American Yiddish theater into a more opera-like genre.
